Drawing Workshops
I believe drawing is not so much an inborn talent, but a skill that can be acquired. If you have the interest, you can pick up drawing no matter whether you have had any experience. Many who have taken my workshops without prior drawing experience were able to draw after the first couple of lessons.
My sketching workshops focus on building foundational skills for observational sketching such as the following:
- Sight measuring
- Proportion
- Perspective
- Tone
- Texture
- Watercolour basics

Comics Workshops
It has been said that in comics, good writing can save poor drawing, but good drawing won't save poor writing. I've found that to be very true. If all you can draw is stick figures, you can still tell a good story in comics. On the other hand, the best draftsmanship won't be able to tell a good story in comics if the visuals are not put together well. To create a good comics story, one must understand the language of comics and sequential art.
In my comics workshops, I teach how to write with pictures. Paneling, composition, staging, flow, use of text and camera angles are our building blocks of good visual storytelling. Whether it's gag comic strips or long-form graphic novels, mastering these tools will help you be a better visual storyteller.
